The Carol Burnett Show redefined comedy on television. it was a variety show combining comedy, dance and music. The show was aired by CBS network from 1967 to 1978. in the decade that it was aired, it was declared as a whopping success. The best aspect about this show was that it struck a chord with television viewers with the simplicity. Every show had a simple concept to project and the simplicity raised the show to great heights of success.
The show was so popular that the stars were household names during the time it was aired. Went with the Wind is one of the episodes of the show which is a parody of the movie Gone with the wind. In the episode, Carol Burnett portrays the role of Scarlett O'Hara and she wears the dress made out of the window curtain. The dress is complete including that of a curtain rod! Another popular episode was The Family. This particular episode was so popular that it finally spun off to create a show of its own. The show called Mama's family had Vicki Lawrence in the lead.
A frequently repeated part of the Caron Burnett Show was the Kitchen Commercials. This featured parodies of television commercials. It was shown in such a way that a character in the episode, played by Carol Burnett used to go crazy with these commercials. The show was also powerful enough to attract many high profile stars to appear in guest roles.
A unique feature of the show was a question and answer section. There used to a question and answer section, which lasted for about three to four minutes where audience could ask Burnett any questions. The audience used to be seated in a studio of CBS Television. it was a very informal session wherein Burnett would randomly select people from the audience to ask her a question.
There were only two recordings for the show. The rehearsal used to last for three to fours on every day until the recordings. Since only two recording were there, if an actor made a mistake in both the takes, it would appear on the show.
Burnett was able to hone her acting skills through this show and she was widely recognized for her talent. Tugging her ear at the end of every show as a message to her grandmother became something like a signature.
