The Carol Burnett Show featured Tim Conway in its cast - an actor who created a great impact on the show and was extremely popular amongst viewers. He was known by many names: Dorf. Charles Parker. Mr.Tudball, and sometimes simply "The Old Man". And by the way, to those who didn't know...Tim is not his real name, he is Tom. He did a small change, when he started out on television in the late 1950s so that he will not be confused with British actor, Tom Conway.
He began with NBC's The Steve Allen Show, and there is no dispute whether he is Tim or Tom with his legacy on comedy during these past 50 years. His most memorable stint was his role in the legendry Carol Burnett Show, where he is responsible for the three of the funniest minutes in TV history - playing a dentist who keeps injecting himself with Novocain. Co-star Harvey Korman, who was one of Conway's great friends for decades, plays the role of the patient, and can't stay in character because he laughs so hard.
He won an Emmy for about 6 minutes of his work, and then everybody suddenly remembered the funny Tim Conway.
He is presently preparing to leave for a show in Canada, and did have sometime to have a small interview, of which we have some excerpts below:
The show he is presently planning to work on is very much similar to the Carol Burnett Show where is co-starred with Harvey Korman. He had starred in similar casts on other shows with Chuck McCann and then with Don Knotts for a short while.
When questioned as to how that he each time he was featured as a guest star on a show, he won an Emmy, he simply replied, "I know, isn't that terrible?"
Speaking about the death of his great co-star friend, Harvey Korman, Tim Conway says that the two of them had been in touch right to the very end. Recalling his friend's illness, Conway says that Korman had lots of things wrong and he was complicated, mainly with a brain tumor that was removed - maybe the size of a baseball. He sadly recalls that when Korman was in hospital he was most of the time in a semi-conscious state. He was there for 5 weeks and Tim Conway said that he took a 2010 calendar, incase he ever woke up. Korman and Conway had been friends for about 40 years and they never met until the Carol Burnett Show.
