Carol Burnett, the famous television and Hollywood actress, had a very humble beginning in San Antonio, Texas. She was born to Ina Louise and Joseph Thomas Burnett in the year 1933. Both her parents were in some way associated with Hollywood. Her mother was a publicity writer for movie studios while her father was the manager of a movie theatre. She did not have a great childhood as both her parents, in particular her father, suffered from alcoholism.

She grew up with her grandmother Mable Eudoria White. When her mother moved to an impoverished location near Hollywood, she and her grandmother also moved along with her to a boarding house.

Though Burnett tried a comeback with the show in 1991, it was not as successful as the original. She has given many notable performances during her career as an actress. For her varied roles and portrayals, she has been nominated many times for prestigious awards such as Emmy and Tony. She has also won these awards in her career span.

The Carol Burnett show alone gathered a staggering 23 Emmy awards during the 11 years period it was aired in CBS. The show was a mix of comedy, dance and singing. Every season it was aired, it either won an award or was nominated for an award. It was received well by the American TV audience.
