The Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) aired the popular 'The Carol Burnett Show' for 11 seasons from 1967 through 1978, an American television variety and sketch comedy program consisting of skits, misicals, comedy and vaudeville style performances by Carol Burnett and her casting team comprising Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner (upto 1974), Harvey Korman and Tima Conway. The entertainment added meticulous attention to detail, with the advantage of two weekly tapings to comu up with a format brilliante. Carol Burnett donned the role of host, singer, actress, and comedian on the sets, and her amazing versatality has impressed many. The program was probably best known for parodies of movies, the most famous of them being 'Went with the Wind', a gag at 'Gone with the Wind', and 'From here to maternity'.
"The Family Sketch" gained a lot of popularity with the audience, and was later dished out as 'Mama's Family' (1983 -1990), with which Vicki Lawrence, who starred in it, got much acclaim.
A full stop was put agains the Carol Burnett Show in 1978, when Carol Burnett wished to move on to other projects. The show was revived insyndicated bits from time to time on CBS, but never lasted a full season.
The Carol Burnett Show was nominated for multiple Emmys every season those eleven years and won more than 20 Emmys, and 8 Golden Globes. Time magazine had the Carol Burnett Show as a part of its voted 100 best shows in television history.
The Carol Burnett Show continues to be aired in syndicated reruns, though it ceased production in 1978, and is considered to be last successful major network show to date.
