The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is the name given to the TV series of Sherlock Holmes adaptations produced by British television company Granada Television between 1984 and 1994, although only the first two series bore that title on screen. The series was broadcast on the ITV network in the UK, and starred Jeremy Brett as the famous detective, a portrayal that many consider to be the definitive screen version of Sherlock Holmes, although this is a much-disputed subject. In addition, Holmes's faithful friend and companion Dr. Watson, scrupulously portrayed as the kind of thoroughly competent sidekick Holmes would want, was played in the two Adventures series by David Burke, before he elected to leave the series to be able to spend more time with his wife and young son. He was replaced by Edward Hardwicke, who played Watson for the remainder of the run.

The series was initially produced by Michael Cox, with later episodes being produced by June Wyndham Davies. It was developed for television by scriptwriter John Hawkesworth, who also wrote many of the episodes. Other writers to contribute included Jeremy Paul, T. R. Bowen and Alan Plater. A full-scale outdoor replica of Baker Street was constructed at Granada's studios in Quay Street, Manchester, which later formed a central part of the Granada Studios Tour tourist attraction, before that venue's closure in 1999.

In addition to Brett, Burke and Hardwicke, other regular cast members included Rosalie Williams as housekeeper Mrs. Hudson and Colin Jeavons as Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard. Also appearing in several episodes was Charles Gray as Holmes' brother Mycroft Holmes (having played the same character in the 1976 film The Seven-Per-Cent Solution), while Eric Porter portrayed Holmes' nemesis Professor Moriarty in the second series of Adventures. The role of the servant Joe Barnes who impersonates Lady Beatrice in the 1991 episode The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place was played by a pre-fame Jude Law.

The couple of its initial series may be having a quite boring title at first, the portrayal for being a famous detective here became very very popular then. The series was broadcasted on ITV network particularly in UK and it starred Jeremy Brett.

Holmes have this faithful friend who I always there to accompany holms just like a sidekick that Holmes would have always wanted and he is Dr. Watson. David Burke is the one who portrayed the role of Dr. Watson as they get to spend a couple of Adventure series before he then thought of leaving so he could spend more quality time for his son and wife. David Burke was then replaced by Edward Hardwicke who then portrayed Dr. Watson’s character in the remainder of the season.

Michael Cox was the one who produced the series in its initial part and then after, its later episodes ha d then been produced by June Wyndham Davies. Screenwriter John Hawkesworth developed the series for TV viewing who as well wrote a lot of episodes and then there were also other writers, who contributed their own ideas for the series including T. R. Bowen, Alexander Baron, Alan Plater and Jeremy Paul.

There were other cast members who as well made the series successful aside from Burke, Brett as well as Hardwicke. Those regular casts include the housekeeper Mrs. Hudson which is portrayed by Rosalie Williams as well as the regular appearance of Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard which is portrayed by Colin Jeavons.

There are also several appearances in a variety of episodes where the brother of Mycroft Holmes being portrayed by Charles Gray can be noticed. You may as well find frequent appearances of Professor Moriarty which is being portrayed by Eric Porter.

The Sherlock Holmes TV series then had to end because of Brett’s death at his age of 61 due to heart failure in the year 1995.
