Hart to Hart is an American television series starring Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers. The series was created by writer Sidney Sheldon and produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg. It ran from 1979 to 1984 on the ABC Television Network.

Jonathan Hart (Wagner) was a self-made millionaire and the CEO of Hart Industries, a global conglomerate. His wife Jennifer (Powers) was a beautiful freelance journalist. Living the jetset lifestyle, the glamorous couple spent their free time as amateur detectives and in every episode they found themselves involved in cases of smuggling, theft, international espionage and, most commonly, murder. At their opulent Californian home, they were assisted by Max (Lionel Stander), their loyal, gravelly-voiced butler, cook, and chauffeur who also helped out in their "cases". The Hart's pet dog was "Freeway", named so because he was a stray they had rescued when he was found wandering on the freeway.

Hart to Hart DVD complete series with all episodes and seasons on DVDs

American television series Hart to Hart, created by the writer Sidney Sheldon and produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg was one of the successful series on television, starring Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers. It was telecasted from 1979 to 1984 on the ABC Television Network.

The story line is such that Jonathan Hart played by Robert Wagner, is a self-made millionaire and the CEO of Hart Industries. It’s a global conglomerate in Los Angeles. His wife Jennifer Hart, played by Stefanie Powers who is a beautiful freelance journalist. Living a glamorous and luxurious lifestyle, the couple spends most of their free time as part time detectives and in almost every episode they found themselves involved in cases of smuggling, theft, international espionage, or a murder.

Max played by Lionel Stander, who is a loyal, manly voiced butler, cook, and chauffeur who also helps them out in their cases. Freeway is their beloved pet dog who was a stray dog before The Hart's rescued him on the freeway. Sidney Sheldon, a screenwriter and novelist had originally written a story line for CBS called Double Twist about a couple who were also spies.

Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg developed the idea of a television series as they believed that this script had a potential of a television series. Tom Mankiewicz, a top screenwriter at that time was offered the script. Tom Mankiewicz, had also written several screenplays including three of the James Bond films.

The producers instructed Mankiewicz to update the script and make it more appropriate and interesting for a potential weekly television series. Mankiewicz draft was successful and he was offered to direct the pilot episode himself. Mankiewicz renamed Sheldon’s original script as Hart to Hart. This pilot episode was his debut as a director and later he continued as a creative consultant on the series.

Cary Grant was the initial choice for the role of Jonathan Hart by Spelling and Goldberg. But 75 years old Grant had already retired from acting some years earlier. Therefore, Robert Wagner who possessed the same qualities and style as required was offered the role. Similarly, Suzanne Pleshette and Lindsay Wagner were the initial choices for the role of Jennifer Hart, but later producers agreed to offer this role to Stefanie Powers.
