Carol Creighton Burnett (Born April 26,1933 in San Antonio,Texas) was a versatile celebrity.She was an Emmy Award winning actress,hilarious comedian,spectacular dancer and a thoughtful writer.Burnett started her journey from New York.Her popularity on Broadway paved the way of her debut on television.After a couple of appearances on The Garry Moore Show,Carol moved to Los Angeles and started the highly reputed The Carol Burnett Show which was aired on CBS television for eleven straight years (1967-1978).The Show was a variety show mixing the flavors of comedy sketches,song and dance.The sketches were made keeping in view the movie parodies and famous characters,these characters were played by Carol, provided her a chance to fully grow and gave her confidence in writing and playing many famous and imaginative characters.
She was a graduate from Hollywood High School and taken further studies from the University of California,Los Angeles ,making step by step progress by the time on TV.Burnett's mother was not much supportive to her acting career , she always wanted her to be a writer.Mrs. Burnett were of the view that you can always write and your physical appearance doesn't matter at all.Carol used to make hilarious gestures and face expressions not knowing that one day she will become a performer.Mrs. Burnett died when Carol was just starting his career in a Broadway role.
The breakthrough came for Burnett when she appeared on Broadway in a musical "Once Upon a Mattress" in 1959.Also in 1959 she appeared regularly on The Garry Moore Show,these regular appearances continued until 1962.She was awarded an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Performance in a Variety or Musical Program or Series" on this program.Burnett gave numerous performances and depicted a lot of characters but she was well recognized for the cleaning woman character she put on once.She rose to a such higher status after the successful appearances in The Garry Moore Show that she appeared in special Julie and Carol Carnegie Hall along with her friend Julie Andrews.
