Petticoat Junction is an American situation comedy produced by Filmways, which originally aired on the CBS network from 1963 to 1970. The rights to the show are held by CBS Television Distribution. The setting for the series was the Shady Rest Hotel in the farming town of Hooterville.

A petticoat is a garment worn under a woman's skirt. The opening titles of the series featured a display of petticoats hanging on the side of a large water tank. The "junction" in the title indicates that the Shady Rest Hotel was situated at a crossing of two train lines (though only one is ever mentioned).

Set in the rural town of Hooterville, the show followed the goings-on at the Shady Rest Hotel, of which Kate Bradley (Bea Benaderet) was the proprietor. Her lazy Uncle Joe (Edgar Buchanan) helped her in the day-to-day running of the business, while she served as a mediator in the various minor crises that befell her three daughters: Betty Jo, Bobbie Jo, and Billie Jo. The actresses portraying Billie Jo and Bobbie Jo changed over the years. Billie Jo was played by Jeannine C. Riley the first two seasons, and then by Gunilla Hutton for one year before Meredith MacRae assumed the role for the show's remaining seasons. Pat Woodell was the original Bobbie Jo for two years, with Lori Saunders playing the part subsequently.

Petticoat Junction â€" Another Comedy TV Series to Look Into

Comedies have been very popular since then and there is this particular American situation type of comedy which has been produced by Filmways and aired on CBS Network from the year 1963 â€" 1970 that you shouldn’t fail to watch by then - Petticoat Junction.

The TV series is actually part of a particular triad of shows interrelate with each other having to show more about certain rural characters. The other two shows interrelated to this are Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies. The show was created by Paul Henning himself.

The major setting of this particular TV series had to revolve around the Shady Rest Hotel which was located on the outer are of the towns farm in Hooterville where it later became the area where Green Acres is located at. This Shady Rest Hotel is then locates in the train line or railroad of C. & F.W.

As most of us are aware of, the petticoat as per being a part of the TV shows title is an old-fashioned garment that is more often worn under a skirt. The series has these opening titles where it shows and displays a number of petticoats which are hanging on the side of a quite large water tank on the railroad as three daughters go skinny dipping.

This whole idea of the Petticoat Junction actually came from the creator’s wife. She more often used to tell him stories regarding her childhood where she visits her family’s hotel back in Eldon, Missouri. The show was then based on the stories that his wife began telling him regarding her own adventure in that Burris Hotel.

The same setting came about in a specific town named Hooterville being situated in the rural areas. It then continued to have a variety of scenes taken from the Shady Rest Hotel where Kate Bradley being portrayed by Bea Benaderet is the said to be the owner of the hotel.

Then another character includes her Uncle Joe Carson being portrayed by Edgar Buchanan as for being the lazy uncle but then was able to help her with the daily running of the hotel business as she tries to become a mediator on a variety of issues that her three daughters have to go through.
