Carol Burnett Series 2

The 11 year old Carol Burnett Show that earned multiple Emmy nominations (and won a total of 23 Emmy Awards over the period) every season it was on air kicked off in the September of 1967. The team was made up of Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, Lyle Waggoner and Vicki Lawerence (who was a part of the cast mostly because she resembled Carol in many ways). Even though apprehensions were rife about her decision to go for a variety show (which was mostly hosted by men and were thought to be successful only when men hosted them) she jumped in with that format, and the rest is history.

Burnett was known for her stupendous talent and acting skills. She was known for excellent acting, and for bringing a close to the show by tugging her ear as a message to her grandmother that she had raised her well, and she loved her for it. She had been with her grandmother from a very young age since both her parents happened to suffer from rampant alcoholism.

The show came to be a hit primarily through its parodies of films ("Went with the Wind" for instance, was a parody of the superhit "Gone with the Wind") and commercials that brought the audience to their feet. Burnett's team hit the right chord with its viewers with "The Family" which later got its own television show called "Mama's Family", starring Vicki Lawrence.

Burnett's grandma died during the show's run, and a teary eyed Carol recalled her grandmother's last minutes on Earth, "She said to my husband Joe from her hospital bed, 'Joe, you see that spider up there?' There was no spider but Joe said he did anyhow. She said 'Every few minutes a big spider jumps on that little spider and they go at it like RABBITS!' And then she died. There's laughter in everything"

The Carol Burnett Show continues to be aired in syndicated reruns, though it ceased production in 1978, and is considered to be last successful major network show to date.

The show is known for its closing sound theme with the lyrics going like this:

I'm so glad we had this time together

Just to have a laugh or sing a song

Seems we just get started and befor you know it

Comes the time we have to say 'So long'
