Carol Burnett appeared at Toronto's Massey Hall in June 2009, and as usual caused a sensation amongst the audience, bringing back fond memories of the past with her hilarious Carol Burnett Show. At the Massey Hall too, she followed her same old concept of "Questions & Answers".
Her concept of "Questions & Answers" prior to the skits was well accepted and looked forward to before the show. When at the Massey Hall, Carol Burnett received nothing by praise and thanks for enriching the lives of families. She got it in the form of hugs, flowers and something unique was that one woman had a tattoo of Burnett on her back. She acknowledged the audience with on-set "Annie" anecdotes, falling asleep onstage during a Broadway musical, evidence that Tim Conway is "funny in real life" and much more. She also shared with her audience, how while she was in Toronto filming a movie, she had got an invitation from a kind fan of hers asking her and co-star Liz-Taylor to use their upstairs master bedroom while the family would sleep downstairs. Of course they declined the invitation!!!
The night included an impression of Walter Matthau, who inquired over lunch: "Why do you do all that TV crap?"
Carol Burnett yet remains popular even with her reruns. Her greatest asset is her strong and effortless reaching out to the audiences. She tells her audience that day, "You gonna be my partner tonight"!!!
One attendee at the Massey Hall that night, Nancy Cavallin, a fan who grew up watching Burnett's "fooling around" on television, said, "The venue selected was perfect. It was informal, and just like watching her show. We were made to feel like she was once again in our living room. What a lady!!"
Carol Burnett enjoyed the audience immensely that night. She was bright, funny and clearly showed that she was immensely in love with all of them, as much as they are in love with her. Referring to the quality and the number of guest stars on her show, she concluded saying, "I am blessed, absolutely blessed." Her statement could have been easily applied for that evening at Massey Hall and it was a sentiment which the audience too wholeheartedly confirmed.
