Born in New York City, Carrie Hamilton (December 5, 1963 in New york City), the daughter of comedienne and actres Carol Burnett and the late producer Joe Hamilton, was an American singer, playright and actress.
Hamilton studied music and acting at Pepperdine University, California. She was part of the stage musicals Fame and Rent. She also starred in Tokyo Pop (1988) in which her role was that of an American singer who jouneys to Japan. There she finds a relationship with botha singer (Diamond Yukai aka Yutaka Takokoro) The movie has several songs performed by Carrie Hamilton. She starred in Cool World (1992) costarring with Brad Pitt, Kim Basinger and Gabriel Byrne. She played the part of Maureen Hohnson in the first national tour of the stage musical Rent to earn great name and fame. She portrayed Reggie Higgins in the televised version of the musical Fame for the fifth and sixth seasons.
Carrie appeared with her mother, Carol Burnett on-screen from time to time. Both of them we part of the movie Hostage (1988). Years after, mother and daughter got together again on the sets of Touched By An Angel. Carol Burnett guest starred on an episode of Fame entitled -The Comeback. They starred together in Teggie and Tose. Touched by an Angel also soay both mom and daughter together in act.
Carrie Hamilton died from lung and brain cancer on january 20, 2002, in L.A at a young age of thirty eight. She is interred in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetry. She is survived by a set of seven sisters (Judi, Kathi, Dana, Nancy, Jody, Erin and Jennifer)and a brother.
The Balcony theatre of Pasadena Playhouse was named the Carrie Hamiltaon Theater after her name in her memory. The theatre hosts a reading sequence "Hothouse at the Playhouse", the Directors lab West and the Furious Theatre Company. The Playhouse announced that the architect Frank Gehry would be given the task of redesigning the Carrie Hamilton theater on Fwebruary 19, 2007. An attempt to immortalize the actress Carrie Hamilton.
