The Bionic Woman is an American television series which spun off from The Six Million Dollar Man. It starred Lindsay Wagner as Jaime Sommers, a tennis professional who was nearly killed in a skydiving accident, and was rebuilt by Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) and Dr. Rudy Wells (Martin E. Brooks), who had also rebuilt The Six Million Dollar Man. As the result of her surgical implantation, Jaime Sommers had amplified hearing, a greatly strengthened right arm, and enhanced legs, enabling her to run faster than a speeding car.

The series ran on ABC for 2 seasons, from 1976 to 1977, and then it was picked-up for airing on NBC from 1977 to 1978, for just one season. Its run on ABC was successful with good ratings, coming in as the fifth most-watched show of in its first season, and finishing in the top 15 (#14) at the end of its second season. At the end of its second season, ABC decided not to renew the show, feeling it was no longer attracting the kind of demographics that ABC wanted. Competing network NBC revived the show for its third and final season.

The Bionic Woman DVD complete series with all episodes and seasons on DVDs

The Bionic Woman was a popular television series in the late 70’s. The show was aired across two networks ABC and competitor NBC from 1976-1978. The show originally aired on ABC for the first season and was picked up the second season by NBC which aired the second and the final third season. The show was a spin off of the popular Six Million Dollar Man series.

The show starred Lindsay Wagner who played the character Jamie Sommers. Sommers was a professional tennis player and was severely injured in ski diving accident. The spin off began when characters Oscar Goldman played by Richard Anderson and Dr Rudy Wells played by Martin Brooks, saved Sommers life by surgically implanting bionic body parts and organs. Once complete the Bionic Woman had increased hearing ability (she could hear things from a mile away) in her right ear, bionic legs and right arm. Her right arm strength was tremendous and she could run as fast as a moving vehicle traveling at over 50MPH.

Originally Sommers starred in the Six Million Dollar Man series an quickly became the love flame of Steve Austin played by Lee Majors. They end up in a serious relationship and plan to marry. Shortly after the two decide to go ski diving and this is when the injury to Jamie occurs. The parachute she is wearing fails to open and she plummets to ground crashing through trees. Suffering from serious trauma to her legs, arm and head her life is in jeopardy. Austin confides in his employer Goldman and pleads that they implant similar bionics into Jamie in order to save her life. Thus was the creation of the Bionic Woman.

The spin off is created once the character is created. It was well known in the industry that the cost for the female bionics was considerably less than that of Steve Austin’s. Although this was never discussed on the show, a German show that dubbed the plot named her the Seven Million Dollar woman.
